E-Training (Line56)
Elluminate explains the proposition; a number of big names, including Apple, are aboard
The utility of face-to-face training is shrinking. The biggest reason is cost. Fuel prices aren't going down anytime soon, and the training function is big on travel. "When our customers focused on classroom training, either trainees would fly into a central facility or trainers would fly all over creation to deliver personal classes," says Rajeev Arora, VP of Marketing for niche e-learning specialist Elluminate.
That means racking up big travel bills as well as losing employee productivity. That's because when people are in a central location being trained, they aren't doing their jobs. Of course, those aren't the only limitations of traditional on-site training. There are also the problems of reuse and on demand access to content.
Elluminate's solution to the problem is to deliver an online training platform. That doesn't mean courseware; unlike an eCornell, for example, Elluminate isn't in the business of supplying learning content and pedagogical models. Elluminate is focused, rather, on the means of delivery of existing training content.

The E-Learning Experience (Line56)
Minnesota School of Business explains what's compelling about e-learning; simulations score big
Building on our resolution to make this the summer of e-learning, we recently spoke to the Minnesota School of Business (MSB) about their use of software for learning in the classroom and in the workplace.
One of the most interesting moments in our discussion with Dr. Andrea Olson, Research and Development Director at MSB, was when she used the term "blended experience" to refer to her overall vision of e-learning. That model, which means combining online and real-world experience in the broadest possible delivery scheme and pedagogic context, is also something to which eCornell CEO Chris Proulx referred in our kickoff conversation with him.

Expanding market tending to divide into two camps (FT)

E-Learning for Channel Partners Delivers Increased Value to SME Customers: Electronic Knowledge Transfer (SAP)
SAP is growing faster than the industry average in the market segment for small and midsize enterprises (SME). The involvement of its partners - and their specialized knowledge - is vital for its success. As part of the new SAP PartnerEdge Program for Channel Partners, the company has established a comprehensive, three-tier training and education curriculum.
Small and midsize enterprise customers, as well as the subsidiaries of SAP's larger customers, increasingly turn to channel partners to help them at every stage of their IT projects. Preparing channel partners to meet customer needs is a top priority for SAP. SAP has therefore introduced a comprehensive, partner e-learning curriculum and built learning paths to ensure that both technical and sales personnel gain the knowledge they need to help customers through every phase of their IT projects.
